🌟 How to Create a Google Analytics Property (And Install It!)

If you’re running Google Ads, installing Google Analytics is non-negotiable. It helps Google track what’s happening on your website so your ads can perform at their very best. 🚀

Below is a simple, clear, and slightly fun walkthrough of how to set up your Google Analytics property and get it installed on your site. You can also use this video to walk you through.

🥇 Step 1: Go to Google Analytics

Head to analytics.google.com.

In the top right corner, you’ll see a little circle icon—usually your logo or initial. That’s the Google account you're currently logged into. Make sure it’s the account you want to own the Analytics property.

👉 If it’s not the right one, click it and switch to the correct email.

🧭 Step 2: Start Measuring

Click the big blue “Start Measuring” button.

You’ll now see a field for Account Name.

✏️ How to Name Your Account

I recommend naming your account like this:

[Your Church Name] – [Website URL] – [Website Builder]

Example:

Grace Church – gracechurch.com – Subsplash

To get your exact URL:

  1. Open a new tab
  2. Go to your website
  3. Copy and paste the URL so it’s perfect every time ✔️

This naming format helps a ton if you ever change website platforms or manage multiple properties.

⚙️ Step 3: Adjust Account Settings

You’ll see Account Data Sharing Settings.

Feel free to uncheck these—they’re optional and not required for tracking.

🏷 Step 4: Name Your Property

Your Property Name should match your Account Name exactly.

Consistency = clarity. 🙌

Choose your time zone, then click Next.

🏢 Step 5: Business Details

For Industry Category, select Other Businesses.

Choose your business size (based on number of staff), then click Next.

🎯 Step 6: Choose Your Objective

Select Generate Leads.

Scroll down and click the blue Create button.

Accept Google’s Terms of Service (because you’re definitely not breaking any rules 😇).

Your property is officially created! 🎉

But not installed yet… keep going.

🌐 Step 7: Add Your Website

Click Choose a Platform → Web.

Paste your website URL into the field.

⚠️ Important!

Google automatically adds https://. If your pasted URL also has https://, delete the extra one so it doesn’t appear twice.

Keep the www if your website uses it.

Name the Stream Name (your church name works great), then click Create and Continue.

🧩 Step 8: Install Your Tracking Code

You now have two installation options:

Option 1: Your website builder wants a full Google Tag

Click Install Manually, then copy the full tag code snippet.

Paste it into the header of your website (or follow your platform’s tutorial—it’s linked right there).

Option 2: Your website builder only needs the Measurement ID

Close the code window

→ find your Measurement ID

→ click to copy

→ paste it wherever your platform asks for it.
