Does my privacy policy need to be custom to my website?

**Please note: this help article does not substitute for legal advice, and the Church Fuel team is not offering legal advice for your church privacy policy. When creating a privacy policy, it is important to consult with a legal team and design a policy custom to your church. Church Fuel assumes no liability by offering these suggestions below.

Yes! Your Privacy Policy needs to be custom to your church website. Privacy Policies are not copy/paste cookie cutter templates.

A privacy policy lets people know how YOUR CHURCH is going to use their information. Therefore, it needs to be custom and explain the ways that you use their information!

For example, here are some (but not all!) of the ways you may collect and use information on your website:

  • A way to “Plan Your Visit” or “Pre-Register Your Kids.”
  • An Opt-in for a newsletter.
  • The use of cookies (Basically all sites use cookies).
  • Any “contact us” field.
  • A page for online donations.
  • Small group sign-ups.
  • Selling online church merch or fundraising through other means.
