Communications Course: How to Send a Group Text
How to: Set Up and Use Group Texting
In Lesson 4 of our Communications course, we’re moving beyond mass broadcasts to something more personal: Group Texting.
While a mass text sends individual messages to many people at once, a Group Text creates a shared conversation—perfect for coordinating with your staff, elders, or a specific prayer team.
Step 1: Access the Conversations Tab
Unlike mass texting, which starts in the "Contacts" tab, group conversations happen in your communication hub.
- Log in to your Church Fuel dashboard.
- On the left-hand sidebar, click the Conversations icon.
- Click the New Message icon (usually a plus sign or "New") at the top of the conversation list.
Step 2: Create Your Group
Once you initiate a new message, you need to define who is in the circle:
- Select Group from the message options.
-
Choose Your Number: Your assigned church phone number will pre-populate here.
Add Participants: Search for your team members by name or phone number.
- Note: You can include up to 10 participants (including yourself) in a single group chat.
- Click Create Group.
Step 3: Send and Manage the Chat
Now that your group is formed, the software creates a dedicated thread for this team.
- Type your message in the text box at the bottom of the screen.
- Click Send.
- Track the Replies: When participants respond, their messages will appear right here in the Conversations tab. You can follow the entire back-and-forth history in one place, ensuring no one misses a beat.
Best Practices for Group Chats
Because group texts hit phones directly, they are best used for high-priority coordination. Consider creating groups for:
- Staff/Leadership: For quick Sunday morning updates.
- Prayer Teams: To share urgent requests with a dedicated inner circle.
- Event Volunteers: For "day-of" logistics and check-ins.
