How to Use Email Templates
Video: Creating Branded Email Templates for Effective Communication
Purpose
This article shows you how to use email templates in Church Fuel so you can build faster, keep your branding consistent, and save time every week. You can create your own branded template or use the done-for-you templates Church Fuel provides, then turn any template into a new email campaign without starting from scratch.
When to Use This
Use this when you want to:
- Create a reusable branded email layout (logo, header, buttons, footer)
- Stop rebuilding the same email design every week
- Start a new email campaign from a template
Prerequisites
Before you begin, confirm you have:
- Access to Marketing and Emails in the Church Fuel software
- A basic layout plan for recurring email elements (header, buttons, footer)
- The correct links or page slugs you plan to use (so buttons do not break)
Steps
1) Create Your Own Branded Template
- Log in to the Church Fuel software.
- Click Marketing, then Emails.
- Go to Templates.
-
Click New, then select Blank Template.
Use the Design Editor to build the foundation of your layout. Common elements include:
- Church logo
- Header section
- Button style
- Footer
- Any recurring elements you want in every email
- Click Save.
You now have a reusable branded email template you can use for future campaigns.
2) Use Church Fuel’s Done-for-You Templates
- Go to Campaigns, then click New, then select Email Marketing Templates.
- Browse Church Fuel’s template library (example: How to Pray All-Church Email Template).
-
Select a template, then click Continue.
The email will load with custom values (merge fields).
- These may look like code in the editor.
-
They display correctly in test emails and live sends.
Customize anything you want:
- Text
- Buttons
- Images
- Links
- Event info
- Send yourself a test email to verify merge fields and button links.
Notes
- Templates reduce design time fast. Once your template is built, most weekly emails only need content updates.
- Custom values auto-fill things like church name, event names, URLs, and branded info. Do not delete them unless you are intentionally replacing them.
- Always send a test email before sending to your list, especially if you have changed slugs or URLs on your website.
- Church Fuel releases new templates regularly, so check the template library often.
