What if I encounter an error while setting up Google Workspace?

You may encounter an error message while setting up Google Workspace. Here are some common errors and how to solve them:


Legacy Nonprofits cannot upgrade 

  • Need to deactivate the legacy version and start a free trial of Business Standard
  • Once in the 14 day trial of Business Standard, then you can go back to nonprofits and activate the workspace again

Domain Name Is Already in Use

If you own this domain and would like to use Google Workspace please follow the steps:

  • Check if you can login at http://admin.google.com - If not:
    • Does a parent organization have your domain including in their Google Workspace? (some overseeing denominations have done this for churches in the past)
    • Did a former staff member begin this process and not finish it?
  • You will need to make a DNS entry to verify your ownership before Google will transfer the workspace rights to you if it’s already in use

Already have Workspace from a Reseller

  • This error generally happens if you bought a package from another site like Wix or Weebly with the Gmail email add on. The good news? As a Google for Nonprofits Church, you can cancel those reseller costs and change to Google for Nonprofits instead!
